Community Outreach - Denver Public Schools Program
In the middle of last year, we created a diversity task force and assessed the ways we could not only diversify our company but create an impact on our industry and community. Gallun Snow created a partnership with Denver Public Schools. Alongside their Family and Community Engagement team members Mike Ramsey and Hanna Pelican, we have been participating in hosting a high school student in a 6-month internship program. The program allows students firsthand experience to understand what a “day in the life of a designer” looks like. The Family and Community Engagement team selected one of their students, Yahir Parada Montes for this program with Gallun Snow. Yahir is a high school senior who has an interest in architecture and design. We crafted a program for him which includes weekly time with our designers focusing on our design process, job descriptions and roles, technology training in Revit, Sketchup, and other programs we use. He has been able to safely tour job sites with us, listen in on crucial conversations with design teams, and connect with our A&D partners in the industry. Yahir started this program in November 2020 and will finish in May 2021. It has been an incredible experience for our staff to work with Yahir and make him feel part of our team while we have been virtual. We look forward to continuing this partnership with DPS and hosting more high school students each year.
