Project Spotlight - Poudre Valley Hospital Cardiac & Progressive Care Unit

Project Scope: Interior design, furniture, art

Project SF: 15,000

Gallun Snow along with PACT Studios recently completed an interior refresh and partial renovation for the Poudre Valley Hospital Cardiac and Progressive Care Unit (PCU), located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Poudre Valley Hospital is part of the UCHealth system serving northern Colorado and southern Wyoming.

This project includes 15,000 square feet of new in-patient space with 24 patient rooms dedicated to Cardiac and PCU services. A complete relocation of the Cardiac Department moved from fifth floor to fourth floor. The PCU department is new to PVH, designed for patients whose care needs fall between what must be delivered in the ICU and what can be handled on most general medical floors.

The interior finish palette for the renovated unit is based on the UCHealth standards. We added glass accents at one nurse station to increase sound privacy for health care providers while preserving lines of sight to patient rooms. The corridor floor patterns and accent paint are designed for wayfinding with linear geometry and accent colors for visual cues toward staff connection points.

Furniture needs were catered to patient’s specific needs. Patients often use a Sara-steady to help assist with standing when seated in a recliner. A demo of the Wieland Accord patient recliner was provided to staff for testing to be sure this product met patient needs and works with the Sara-steady stand assist equipment. Furniture in the patient rooms was modified to include polycarbon finishes in lieu of wood for ease of cleaning and sanitizing, aiding with infection prevention. All components of design were carefully thought out, even the art includes a hidden message - if you look carefully, you will find hidden hearts within the landscape and nature images.
