Project Spotlight: Denver International Airport

If you’ve traveled through the Denver International Airport lately, you’ve likely noticed some new big changes and bright new spaces. After years of planning, construction documentation, and hundreds of miles walked during construction administration, we are so proud to say that Concourse A-West, Concourse C-East and Concourse B-East are ALL now open! These expansions are key infrastructure elements in DENs goal of Vision 100 (serving 1 million passengers per year by 2030). These investments in DEN’s future are already proving their value. In 2022, DEN increased its passenger traffic 17.8% from 2021 to 69,286,461 passengers last year and set an All-Time Passenger record!

For the Expansion projects, our internal DEN team seamlessly integrated into the HNTB team for Concourse A West and with Jacobs for Concourses C-East and B-East adding 39 total new gates for all projects (including B-West which opened in November 2020). Concourse A-West is home to 12 new gates and 16 holdroom seating areas. The expansion includes domestic and international flights, as well as concession space, an outdoor deck with seating area and airline support spaces.

Concourse C-East which largely is comprised of Southwest Airlines gates, has added 16 new gates and 20 holdroom seating areas, including a commuter level for local and regional airlines. Additional scope of the project included the relocation of Southwest Airlines offices from the concourse core to the new expansion giving them the generous space that the expanding airline presence in the airport needs.

Lastly, but certainly not least, Concourse B-East Expansion, which holds some of the best views of the flights taking off, expanded United Airline’s presence by 7 new gates and 12 holdroom seating areas. It includes 6,000 sf of concession space and unique seating areas like the images below.

The final touch for these projects will include the integration of public artwork installations. Provided as part of the City of Denver’s Public Art Policy, these original works of art will be installed between 2026 - 2028. Check out some of the artists renderings here- https://www.flydenver.com/sites/default/files/downloads/23-%20Artwork%20Selected%20for%20Concourse%20Expansions.pdf). It has been a privilege to be a part of these amazing projects over the past 6 years, and we cannot wait to see where DEN is going next!
